Bruichladdich Organic

I love this Scotch. It's 5 years old. Almost transparent. Don't know how to describe it... floral, heather, the ocean. Clean, low finish, sweet nose but aggressive finish.

Balblair 1989

vintage_1989_whiskey

Balblair 1989: absolutely amazing wiskey. Very, very smooth with honey notes and a hint of citrus. Excelent nose. Never heard of it before but it's great.

Mid-amber in appearance with honey-gold highlights, this Balblair 1989 is a full-bodied malt with rich aromas of raisin, green apple and hints of banana and lemon. The American oak barrels, used in the distillate's maturation, lend a memorable warm toffee, vanilla fragrance.

On the palate the typical Balblair characteristics are abundant. Ripe fruits fuse with a hint of sherry-drenched raisins. Together with a rich spiciness there is a distinctive long, complex and ultimately smooth finish.

Appearance: Mid-amber with honey-gold highlights.
Aroma: Full-bodied with raisin, green apple and hints of banana and lemon.
Palate: Raisins and fruits with a rich spiciness.
Finish: Long, complex and ultimately smooth finish.

Genmorangie 15

Great scotch from Mark for christmas. Sweet and smooth, a great after-dinner drink, especially with friends & family.

Macallan 12

Great gift from my Mom for christmas. The Macallan was my first scotch and I'm just coming back around to it now.

I always liked it but didn't know why; now that I've developed my pallet it's simply brilliant. Mellow, heavy, fruity and chocolaty.

Glenfiddich 18 Year

Hiyat got me this exquisite scotch for Valentine's day. It's a very thoughtful gift -- we toured this distillery together with Gabe while in Scotland.

Great stuff. Buttery, sweet, with a hint of the ocean.

Our master craftsmen have created a complex, mellow single malt Scotch whisky from years of patient maturation in casks of the finest Oloroso sherry and American bourbon. It is secreted away in our traditional warehouse, where the cool, thick stone walls and low ceilings mature the whisky to perfection. Years later what emerges is a Glenfiddich 18 Year Old with an elegant nose, faintly sweet, scented with apple and wood. It is robust and full-bodied, yet remarkably soft, rounded and long lasting.

Auchentoshan 10 Year

auchentoshan
I had forgotten completely about the Auchentoshan 10 until Jason reminded me. What a great whiskey, especially for such a young one. It is agressive, but still full of fruity notes and a low finish. Great stuff, and a good deal too.

Nose
Scenty. Definite linseed. Lemon grass. Vanilla.
Palate
Light, soft, oily, mashmallow-like. Good flavour development. From lemony to cedary.
Finish
Rounded. Soothing, long.
Comment
At 10 years, Auchentoshan makes an expressive, eloquent claim to being the classic Lowlander.

Very similar to the Glenfiddich but more powerful. Buttery and vanilla. 8/10.

Glenfiddich 18 yr

Good, solid, subtle whiskey. Clean, buttery and chocolate notes. A solid 7/10.

Caol Ila 18 yr

Peaty but not overwhelmingly so like the Bowmore (which is also fabulous). More subtle with vanilla and spices. Great whiskey - 8/10. A very generous gift from Jason

Bruichladdich 15yr

Very elegant scotch. Sweet, light, vanilla notes. Very clear looking as color is not added to the blend. Small amount of peaty aftertaste.

Balvenie Doublewood

nother bottle of the doublewood -- arguably one of my favorite scotches. Balvenie just doesnt make a bad blend.
A fab birthday gift from my buddy Jason.

Glenlivet 12 Year Old

Good stuff. I love Glenlivet after visiting the distillery on our trip to the UK last year.Very good basic scotch, a little rough around the edges but really enjoyable. Hint of florals and apple, dry and clean.

Bowmore 12

Smokey, peaty, a little too agressive but a good day-to-day scotch for cold winter nights. Little bit of chocolate and orange, not as much as the 17 of course.

McClellands Highland 16 Year

I took a chance on this one, never having heard of McClellands before. Its not bad, buttery with lots of fruity flavors yet with the throatyness of a highland. I hear its a rebottling of Glen Garioch, which I also like. Suprisingly mellow. Not bad.

Auchentoshan 10 Yr

Picked this up at the Scotch tasting this weekend at Willow Park. For a ten year, its very mellow and smooth. Hints of citrus and heather, yet distinctively a lowland. Triple distilled.
