The Machine

A decent stab at being an intellectual thriller. Follows a pretty standard trope of man creating AI as an innocent, childlike figure... and then corrupting it for our own ends.

Worth a watch.

The Peripheral

Fantastic new book by William Gibson. Essentially two parallel (and confusing) universes happening simultaneously: one taking place within a vast and detailed game running on a server no-one knows where, and one in the 'real world.'

Intentionally confusing, you dive into the book feeling instantly perplexed and lost. But the characters and world building is so compelling, and so well written, that it's an instant classic.

Great Weekend With The Kids

Hiyat is away at the half corked marathon for the weekend, so I've been spending some great alone time with the kids.

We've had a fire in the backyard, went to Gabe's basketball game to watch him, been to three different parks, gone for slurpees, been rollerblading...

It's been a great low-key weekend. Relaxing. Spent time having a cigar in the hot tub, and watching some guy movies.

The weather has been fantastic, which is a great break to the long winters that seem to be getting longer the older I am!

What Next?

It's been almost exaclty three years since I've updated this blog.

In that three years, I've achieved a lot -- I've gone after my career in a very large way, and achieved at a level that I thought was as far as I wanted to ever take it.

And now that I'm there, I'm asking... what next?

I've also acheived my 3rd degree black belt in aikido... and then taken a hiatus from aikido altogether. Because... what next?

I've been focusing on family. And that, I think, is what's next.
